World Poker Tour heading to Australia for WPT Championship Event
- The World Poker Tour has confirmed it will be visiting Australia later this year
- WPT The Star Sydney scheduled for September 18-October 1, 2025
The World Poker Tour has announced plans to visit Australia this September for a full festival of poker tournaments at The Star Sydney.
The festival kicks off September 18 and will run through October 1.
The two-week event will culminate with a $5,500 AUD buy-in WPT Championship event taking place September 27-October 1.
WPT CEO Adam Pliska said: "There is something truly special about the passion and energy of the Australian poker community,.
"It is an honour to deliver a Championship event that celebrates and rewards that spirit."
This will be the first WPT Championship event held at renowned The Star Sydney and the first WPT stop at the location since WPTDeepstacks Sydney in 2022 where Mark Fester earned a career best score of $413,006.
With an expanded schedule and the arrival of a WPT Championship event for the first time, WPT at The Star Sydney promises to be one of the most anticipated poker events of the year.
Martin Coughlan, Senior Manager of TG Optimization and The Star Poker Manager, said in a press release: "I couldn’t be more thrilled to bring a WPT Championship Event to The Star Sydney! Sydney is the perfect backdrop for one of the most exciting poker festivals of the year.

Additional details, including the full festival schedule, satellite opportunities, and hotel rates for players will be made available in the coming weeks.
