WPT Australia’s return to The Star Sydney ended with an almost entirely Australian final table and a home champion holding the trophy.

Alex Thompson beat Filip Radic heads-up to win the A$5,000 WPT Australia Championship, collecting A$450,900 from a A$2.424 million prize pool. The tournament drew 527 entries and closed the Main Tour portion of a festival that had already seen Cooper Feltham win WPT Prime Australia

Thompson Turns Chip Lead Into WPT Title

Thompson had already done the hard work before the final six sat down. He began with 8.615 million chips and a clear lead over Radic, then watched his nearest rival eliminate Ryan Henry in sixth. After that, Thompson took over most of the clearing-out himself.

Tingjia Huang’s final major pot ended when he paid off Thompson’s queen-high straight. Jack Sweet followed after losing ace-four against pocket nines, before Thompson picked up another elimination against Pranav Bhatt.

Bhatt held ace-queen to Thompson’s five-four, but a four on the flop was enough to send the tournament heads-up.

Radic started the final duel behind and eventually shoved six-five suited. Thompson called with jack-ten, stayed ahead through the board and secured his first WPT title.

Feltham Takes WPT Prime After Heads-Up Fightback

Earlier in the festival, Cooper Feltham won the A$1,500 WPT Prime Australia Championship after one of the more turbulent final tables of the Sydney stop.

Feltham began sixth in chips with 17 big blinds, moved into contention through a series of large pots and eventually reached heads-up against Ling Liu.

Liu recovered from a huge deficit and briefly moved ahead before the pair agreed a deal. Feltham then regained control and completed the win when his ace-two improved to a wheel on the river against Liu’s ace-seven.

The Prime Championship drew 1,036 entries and generated A$1.346 million, considerably larger in field size than the Main Tour event but at a much lower buy-in.

The two championship events  finished with very different stories. Feltham fought his way back from 17 big blinds, while Thompson entered the final table in command and stayed there.

Between the two of them, they gave the 2026 Sydney stop two Australian champions and two very different routes to a WPT trophy.
